Pia GuanioBeauty and brains plus hard work sum up Pia Guanio, one of local TV’s favorite hosts. No wonder she’s part of the A-list of successful celebrities in Philippine entertainment.

As everybody knows, before landing as part of GMA network’s roster of talents, Pia was with the rival station handling several programs. But before facing the camera she worked as a researcher in Inside Story, the news and current affairs program of former Senator Loren Legarda. From a researcher she became the Associate Producer of the award-winning program.

In front of the limelight, she was known first as the “Traffic angel” who used to board the every morning chopper to report on the metro’s road situations for the morning show Alas Singko Y Media ( now Magandang Umaga Pilipinas). Because of her tough job and popularity, she even got her first endorsement deal for a deodorant product.

Meanwhile, reviewing films was also one of Pia’s stints via Review Night with Ryan Agoncillo of the cable channel Cinema One. She became more famous to viewers when she joined the gang of of the defunct noontime show Magandang Tanghali Bayan.

Only when Pia moved to GMA did she shine like a true TV icon. Beyond hosting she managed to venture into acting and performing when she became part of the longest running variety show, Eat Bulaga. Incidentally, she also found her Romeo in the program; the prince of comedy and fellow host, Vic Sotto.

Meanwhile, serves as showbiz news anchor in the news show in 24 Oras. She’s in charge of the entertainment segment- called Chicka Minute bringing us the top show biz headlines of the day. The show also gives her the chance to work with one of her inspirations, Ms. Mel Tiangco.

“You can get her to do something super dead serious that’s of total national interest, in the same breath she can turn around and conduct a really light interview. She goes beyond being a news reader,” Pia says of the veteran anchor. “She places an enormous amount of concentration and attention to detail. A lot of people in my profession are just content with reading the news and reading their spiels that not really know about the substance of what they say.”

Pia’s job is not a Monday-friday thing, On Sundays she holds live interviews and scoops the newest intrigues in showbizlandia for S Files where she co-hosts with Joey Marquez, Paolo Bediones and Richard Gomez.

For this kind of profession Pia notes that she needs to read the tabloids all week long to keep abreast of celebrities and the issues surrounding them. She also admits seeking advice from her co-stars if she’s in doubt of some issues. “I can always consult Mayor lalo na kung legal-legal ang pinag-uusapan, Goma (Gomez) is the same way. Paolo naman, because he has been in the business for so long. Siyempre, he is also a good person to ask on how do I attack the issues.”

Ang Pinaka, the QTV 11 weekend show, is the latest addition to her programs. Ang Pinaka is one-of -a-kind infotainment show that features the TOP 15 of everything under the sun from style, restaurant, romantic places, music, beaches, and showbiz to everyday life. The show is packaged as the official “Survey ng Bayan.”

From Monday ’til Sunday, daytime or primetime block, Pia Guanio graces the Filipinos’ boob tubes. She has involved herself in a diverse collection of TV programs where she can show her versatility and colorful personality.
