Carmina VillaroelEach star has his/her own story of success and secrets to remain significant in this unpredictable world of Philippine show business. The most popular today may be overshadowed by tomorrow’s new breed of stars. Carmina Villaroel knew this ever since she entered showbiz, but for her there is only one ingredient to have the staying power: love your craft.

Rising from 90s Regal Babies and starting as commercial model, the then bubbly and pretty young Carmina found the route to her showbiz destiny. Along with her batchmates Ruffa Gutierrez and Aiko Melendez, she was a typical teenager who treated life as one big exciting adventure.

According to Carmina the most difficult task would be balancing between her study and showbiz career. She was among the celebrities who gave importance to education in spite of the demands of the entertainment industry. She finished secondary education and wants continue her college dream, soon.

“After school lagi ang trabaho ko. From school diretso na ako sa trabaho. Minsan kapag may exam ako or kung may assignment, sa set na ako nag-aaral. Mahirap kasi parang ang dami-dami mo laging iniisip, pero gusto ko iyon. Pinangako ko sa mga magulang ko na kailangan kong tapusin iyong pag-aaral ko.”

Carmina also revealed that her showbiz generation faced no complication. They gave importance to their work as well understanding each other’s achievements. Mind your own business, in short. Another thing is giving respect to the elders, something that Carmina wants to inculcate to all teen stars today.

“Iyong iba kasi nauna nang pumasok sa ulo na sikat sila. Minsan nakakalimutan na nilang magbigay ng respeto,” she laments. “Kasi ako naalala ko kahit hindi ko kakilala basta nakatatanda sa akin binabati ko. Saka iyong professionalism may mga iba nale-late kasi galing kung saan. Kami dati kahit anong puyat kapag sinabing 8 o’clock nasa set na kahit wala ka pang tulog.”

Her first movie was “Pinulot Ka Lang Sa Lupa”, playing the young Maricel Soriano. In the said movie she worked with legendary director Ismael Bernal and the veteran actor Eddie Garcia. She divulges that she was nervous yet proud for having the chance to be with the industry’s respectable personas.

To partner with young actors was also part of the her host career path; she was teamed with Robert Ortega and Smokey Manoloto but in real life, she had relationships with Keempee de Leon and Rustom Padilla. Doing “Wating” at the age of 18 years old was the turning point of her career. In the flick, she did action and sexy scenes with actor and now aspiring senator Richard Gomez.

Obviously, she’s now happily married with Zoren Legaspi with whom ahe has twins, Maverick and Cassandra. Carmina, now has new role as wife and mom. She shares that she’s fond of playing with her kids but cherish the opportunity that she can be with her family and at the same time a be a career woman.

“Kailangan working mon talaga ako kasi gusto ko ‘yung work ko. Nakikita naman siguro ng mga tao na mahal ko ang aking ginagawa.”

Aside from hosting the top rating morning show “Sis” with chums Janice and Gelli de Belen, Carmina also continues to give us laugh in “Nuts Entertainment” and features interesting lives through the magazine show, “Day Off” on QTV 11.
